Bill Lawson: Senior Executive Director

We are pleased to introduce you to a member of our Paradise Village team, Bill Lawson. Take a moment to get to know this terrific team member . . .

Tell us about your family:

My mother and father live in Charlotte, North Carolina. Their names are John and Mary and have been married for 45 years. Both of them are retired Air Force. We lived overseas for quite a number of years in Belgium before coming back to the states.

What do you do in your free time?

In my free time I work out 5 to 6 days a week. I hike Cowles Mountain quite a bit. I also attend quite a few concerts and plays whenever possible. The rest of my time is spent with my dogs one of which is a rescue and the most thankful dog I have ever seen.

Why do you like working with seniors and their families?

I have a great time working with seniors. I find working with seniors is very fulfilling and almost like being a part of an extended family. My goal is to make my residents feel at home and happy each day. If I can make my residents smile and comfortable I feel as though I did something right that day.

Work history:

I started at an independent living property on the shoreline of Connecticut as a waiter which I really enjoyed. I then went into their attached skilled nursing facility as a Dietary Manager and learned how to use a computer to build their menus. During a tremendous snowstorm in Connecticut I was out here in San Diego and decided to never go back. I ran two skilled nursing kitchens for a while and then went into social work while obtaining my degree. I began working as an Executive Director about 7 years ago and have truly enjoyed my career path.

When do you most feel alive?

Probably after a good hike or a very good meal.

What could you not live without?

I think I would have to say my freedom and independence. I am going to throw my dogs into the mix too because I don’t know what I would do without them being around.

Any guilty pleasures?

Italian food, chocolate, candy and all the things are bad for you but I never listen.

What is the best part of your work day?

Getting home after a long day and being greeted by my dogs. Taking them for a walk at the end of the day centers me.

If you would like to give him a call today, he can be reached on his direct line at (619) 399-5407 or BLawson@liveatparadise.com
